FSU's Singleton Poses Problems For Hurricanes

Jan 19, 2011 5:25 PM

Florida State's Chris Singleton is expected to cause problems for Miami when the two schools do battle on Wednesday.

Malcolm Grant was reviewing film from one of last season's losses to Florida State recently when he was reminded about the dangers of dribbling near Singleton.

"It was a play when Chris switched over onto me and I started messing around with the ball," Grant said.

"I tried to make a move, slip past him and he just stuck his arm out and took the ball away from me. To me, he’s got to be one of the best defenders in the country just because of that – his size, his length, his skills. There aren’t too many guys that can defend a [point guard] and go down and mix it up with a [power forward]."

Singleton, who led the ACC in steals and finished fifth in blocks last season while averaging 10.2 points and seven rebounds, has developed into a much more dangerous and polished weapon for the Seminoles since the Hurricanes last saw him.

Donnavan Kirk Heads To DePaul

Jan 7, 2011 5:42 PM

Former Miami redshirt freshman Donnavan Kirk confirmed Friday that he has transferred to DePaul and will begin classes and practicing with the Blue Demons on Monday.

Kirk, a 6-foot-9, 230-pounder, played in the Hurricanes' first 13 games and averaged 2.7 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.5 minutes.

He left Miami to be closer to home and his ill grandfather in Detroit.

Kirk chose DePaul over Central Michigan, Northwestern and Oakland.

He will be eligible in November with DePaul's academic calendar being in quarters.

Kirk Won't Transfer To Northwestern

Jan 5, 2011 9:35 AM

Miami transfer Donnavan Kirk watched Northwestern play Michigan State recently, but he won't transfer to the school.

"No Northwestern anymore," Kirk said, declining to name a reason.

The redshirt freshman forward (6-foot-9, 230-lb) is searching for a school closer to his native Detroit.

"I've had personal issues, and I probably feel it's best to be closer to home," Kirk said.

"Right now, I’m looking at Depaul, Oakland, and Central Michigan."
